Rev. Piotr Wiśniewski, born in 1972 in Golub-Dobrzyń; musicologist, music historian; graduated in philosophy and theology from the Warsaw Theological Academy in 1998 with a master's degree in theology. In the years 1999-2004 he studied at the Institute of Musicology of the Catholic University of Lublin (KUL), obtaining a master's degree in musicology with honours on the basis of the work entitled Śpiewy Mandatum w Graduałach Piotrkowskich (1629-1651) [Maundy songs in the Piotrkowczyk Graduals (1629-1651)], written under the supervision of Rev. Professor Ireneusz Pawlak. In the years 2004-2006 he completed doctoral studies in musicology (KUL) and received a doctoral degree in the field of history-musicology (2006) on the basis of his doctoral dissertation Oficjum rymo­wane o św. Zygmuncie w antyfonarzach płockich z przełomu XV/XVI wieku. Studium hi­storyczno-muzykologiczne [Rhymed office on saint Sigismund in antiphoners from Płock from the 15th-16th century. Historical-musicological study], supervised by Rev. Prof. Ireneusz Pawlak. In 2012, he received the degree of doctor habilitated in humanities in the field of history-musicology on the basis of the publication Śpiewy późnośredniowieczne w antyfonarzach płockich z XV/XVI wieku na podstawie responsoriów Matutinum [Late medieval chants in antiphoners from Płock from the 15th-16th century on the basis of Matutinum responsories]. In the years 2007-2013 he worked at the Faculty of Historical and Social Sciences of the Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University in Warsaw (Theoretical and Applied Musicology), initially conducting commissioned classes and later acting as assistant and – subsequently – associate professor. In 2014 he began working as an assistant professor in the Department of Religious Polyphony of the Institute of Musicology at the Faculty of Theology of the John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin, since 2015 he has been the head of the Department of Religious Polyphony, renamed in 2021 as the Department of Religious Monody and Polyphony. In 2017, he was appointed associate professor of the John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin. In the academic year 2017/18 he was the acting director of the Institute of Musicology KUL, becoming its director in the following academic year. Since 2019 he has been the director of the Institute of Art Sciences of the John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin and the coordinator of the discipline art studies at the Faculty of Humanities KUL.

He is a member of Polish and foreign scientific associations: The Association of Polish Church Musicians, The Learned Society KUL, Francis de Sales Scientific Society, Associazione Internazionale Studi di Canto Gregoriano (German-speaking section), The Polish Composers' Union (Musicologists' Section) and Lublin Scientific Society.
